THE STOLEN AIRSHIP, 1967
A 1966 live-action/animated film by master fantasist and Czech filmmaker Karel Zeman. This story of five boys who steal a dirigible and land on a mysterious island is loosely-based on Jules Verne’s novels Two Years’ Vacation and The Mysterious Island. The film, shot in Art Nouveau style, consists of live-action scenes (generally photographed in black and white) along with hand-drawn, stop motion, and cutout animation.
